Neckpiece | Stainless Steel woven wire cloth, sintered, with flame patina; 925 Silver, oxidized | 16" drop length  convert dimensions to inches

Combining precious and industrial metals has been a long held interest. The ORBIS neckpiece challenges the perception of the intrinsic qualities of the materials. The usually tough stainless steel, woven into a tight cloth of almost microscopic wires, becomes pliable, light, and sensuous, behaving somewhat like paper. The softer,  malleable sterling silver, provides structural support. Together, these materials bring integrity and beauty to the piece.

While ORBIS may look heavy, it is actually feather light. Irregular shaped circles overlap each other as they cascade down the front of the chest (jewelry as armor?). The surface colors, achieved with a flame patina technique, play off of each other, revealing iridescent hues as they move together and reflect the light. Oxidized silver links mimic the cascading effect, and conceal a simple closure at the back.
